White meat diets: Can you lose weight rapidly with fad dieting?
Many of us are so keen to lose weight that we are willing to give any fad diet a chance. Over the years there has been Atkins, the South beach diet, the Hollywood diet, the cabbage soup diet, the three day diet... and now the white meat diet is gaining popularity. But what many people fail to recognise is that some of these diets can potentially do more harm than good.
White meat diets: lose weight rapidly?
Fad diets often leave out important nutrients that your body requires, and although you may lose weight your body won’t be in good shape. If you follow the white meat diet you will be told to cut out all red meat. Cutting out red meat has advantages, but only if you find other sources of the zinc, iron, thiamine and riboflavin that red meat is high in.
White meat is lower in fat than red meat, but red meat eaten in moderation is a good source of these important nutrients. If you want to lose weight, fad diets should not be considered as a first option. These diets might seem appealing because most of them promise instant results. In reality, losing weight takes time - and a lot of effort and will power are required.
Despite the hype, weight management is simple. If you eat more calories than you burn you will put on weight. If you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight. If you eat the same number of calories as you burn, your weight will remain the same.
Before starting the white meat diet or any other fad diet, consult a dietician or doctor and discuss the best options for you to lose weight.
