But is it justified? To begin with, matcha contains vitamins and minerals albeit in tiny amounts, but the important thing is that it is loaded with powerful oxidants called polyphenol compounds or catechins. Its potency comes from the fact that it is ground from tea leaves which is more effective than being consumed as an infusion where the leaves are discarded.

A study reveals that matcha contains a good amount of catechins called epigallocatechin gallate. That much ECG is not found in your standard tea. ECG is touted to help combat cancer cells, viruses and heart disease.

Clinical tests also suggest that matcha can boost immunity, improve cell production and deliver the so called "calm alertness". The reasoning behind this is that matcha contains only a small amount of caffeine enough to keep you awake without being nervous.

Take note that the National Cancer Institute states that matcha benefits depends on how the tea is prepared and consumed. This means that the effects are not the same if you drink the tea as latte or eat it in a dessert. The best way to make use of its effects is to brew and drink matcha.
