Getting the right toothbrush does a lot of the work for you because you need to use an oscillating motion when you brush rather than the up and down, side to side routine that most of us use.

A decent electric brush is what you need. Make sure that it’s one with soft bristles as these are what you need for removing plaque and debris from your teeth.

Brushes with small heads are also preferable as they can get into the hard to reach places within the mouth. An electric brush is good if you have limited manual dexterity, but it’s the best solution for most of us.

Changing your toothbrush regularly is also really important. Get rid of it when it shows signs of wear or at least every three months. If you’ve had a cold, you should replace it as the germs remain embedded on the bristles for a long time after you’ve recovered.
