Kidney Infection Symptoms

Having a kidney infection can be very serious and extremely painful. Bacteria works it's way from the bladder to one or sometimes both kidneys. Women more so than men are more commonly found to come down with this infection due to the shorter urethra. Even though it is not that common it is importnat to know various kidney infection symptoms.

List of Symptoms

The common kidney infection symptoms usually involve having a fever, chills, and feeling weak or tired. Many also have lower back, side or groin pain as well.

Other typical kidney infection symptoms are:

  • Frequent urination
  • Any burning sensation or pain when urinating
  • Pus or blood that is appearing in the urine
  • Cloudy or bad smelling urine
  • Any pain in the lower abdomen

It is important to keep a close eye on children as well when they are complaining of different pains that seem to be abnormal for them. Because they may not know yet how to express the various symptoms that they feel, it may be more difficult to identify if they have an infection. In addition to the symptoms listed above, children may also show a lack of energy, vomiting, jaundice, bedwetting, and irritability.

When to visit your GP

If you are starting to experience nausea, vomiting, blood in urine, and consistant high temperatures, it is highly recommended that you visit your GP and have them take a look at your situation. This is the same for children as well. Any signs or symptoms that are persistant or seem to be serious, visit their doctor immediately. Once you see your GP they will usually give you some type of antibiotic to help fight off the infection and prevent it from going into your bloodstream.

Even though the kidney infection symptoms are extremely painful, if it is caught and treated promptly and effectively it should be easily resolved and cured. But it is improtant to closely watch this problem and contact your doctor before it gets too serious and leaves permanent damage to your kidneys.
