How to quit sugar
Almost everyone loves sweet stuff whether it's a slice of a chocolate cake, confectionery or a fizzy sugary drink. Alas, sugar or too much of it is bad for your health. Consuming the stuff has, however, become an addiction in many ways. We propose several ways how to quit sugar.
Ditching the sucrose
There are many compelling reasons why you should banish sugar in your diets forever, if possible. It rears an ugly cycle of addiction fuelling feelings of hunger, moodiness and fatigue. Excess fat is stored in the body and it causes inflammation which can lead to heart disease and diabetes.
For these reasons, it is highly recommended to ditch the stuff as soon as possible. Here are several ways how to quit sugar:
- Eat foods high in proteins and fibre
These foods are highly satisfying keeping the body feeling full for a longer period of time. Eat eggs, avocados, nuts, salmon and hummus.
- Forget the bread and pasta and consume your veggies
Your mum is right - you should eat your vegetables everyday. True, bread and pasta taste way better, but they convert to sugar creating the same vicious cycle that sugar produces.
- Try sour foods
Sour is not a taste everyone likes. But the great thing about eating sour foods such as sauerkraut is that the taste kills the sugar craving.
- Go dark (on chocolates)
Dark chocolate has many touted benefits including releasing endorphins that will not bring your sugar levels sky rocketing and lowering the risk of a heart disease.
Sugar detox is not easy
Like any addiction, withdrawal from sugar can also cause disturbances in your lifestyle and behaviour. Doing sports is highly recommended to keep your mind off your sugary indulgences. Don't worry, the craving will soon pass and after 5 days of going sugarless, you will eliminate the substance from the body. Another tip how to quit sugar is to limit the amount of fruits you consume in a day to one portion. Remember, fruits contain fructose.
