You may well have happened upon websites promising to let you in on some super secretive information about the latest "super berry" or "fat burning supplement", but the truth is that when it comes to losing weight, the tried and tested methods are the best.
Essentially, losing, maintaining or gaining weight boils down to a handful of factors. The first is your current weight. The more you weigh, the more calories your body will burn while simply living. The amount of calories you need to sustain your current weight is known as your Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR for short.
The second factor is how many calories you take in during the day as food. The more calories you eat, the more likely you'll be to gain weight rather than lose it, but there's a third factor that will potentially help you out here if you simply can't kick your habits of indulging: exercise.
The more exercise you do, the more calories you burn, which means that even if you do eat a little too much, you can counteract that by going for walk or run, hitting the gym or working out at home.
These three factors are the key to healthy, sustainable weight loss, and how you manage them will determine how successful you are.
That's really all there is too it. Once you determine your BMR, you'll know how many calories you need to take in in order to neither gain nor lose weight. From that point, you simply subtract food or add exercise and you'll have figured out exactly how to lose weight faster without risking potentially dangerous celebrity fad diets or questionable supplements.
However, it's worth noting that you also need to keep your expectations in check. Cutting too many calories out of your diet, or exercising excessively when your body isn't used to it can be seriously harmful for your health.
