The main cause of anemia is a crucial lack of iron in your diet, so it is obvious that in order to prevent anemia, it is essential to meet the iron needs of the body and allow it to be properly assimilated. The symptoms of anemia often include a prolonged sense of fatigue, lack of concentration, brittle hair and nails and a greater susceptibility to diseases.

Many of the anemia cases related to a nutritional deficiency can be prevented by adopting a diet that contains enough iron, vitamin B and folic acid. The major natural sources of iron are red meat, fish and poultry. Folic acid in its natural form can be found in dark green leafy vegetables such as asparagus or spinach and organ meats.

The medical treatment varies depending on the type of anemia. An iron, vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency can be corrected by administering oral or intravenous supplements. For women with heavy periods, a hormone therapy such as the pill or IUD with progesterone can help. In the case of a chronic disease causing anemia, adequate treatment of that specific disease is enough to eliminate anemia.
