We have some advice about beating bulimia
Despite what many people glean from reading tabloids and fashion magazines, there's nothing sexy or attractive about eating disorders. Not only do they result in a haggard and exhausted look for the sufferer, but they almost never have the desired results due to the body going into survival mode and hanging desperately onto whatever fat deposits it has left.
If you or someone you know is affected by an eating disorder, we have some advice about beating bulimia that might just prove to be the difference between life and death.
The single most important advice we can offer is to seek professional medical advice. While this may not be what you want to hear, it really does need to be top of your list. Only a doctor or mental health professional can correctly diagnose and treat bulimia. Self diagnosing is not reliable, nor will it help you beat the disease.
Next up is the fact that during your recovery you need to place all your focus on getting better. Your weight doesn't come into it. Eating disorders can play horrible tricks on the mind, making you think that you're fat, regardless of the truth of the matter, so worrying about your weight will simply hinder your recovery, making it a massive no-no.
Finally, you need to remember that even if you hit some setbacks along the way, your recovery will only last as long as you allow it to. Don't get yourself too down, or allow yourself to spiral downwards if you don't think your recovery is happening quickly enough. It's a life long process and needs to be treated as such.
